CIAAI Helps Fire Investigators in training opportunities and available resources. Colorado has various terrains that range from mountains with thick forest, grassy plains, and desert. Fire Investigators within our great State travel throughout to help assist in fire investigations. The CIAAI is the Colorado Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI), whose membership is over 12,000-members of professionals from around the world dedicated to the control of arson and the investigation of all fires. Members include fire service investigators, police, engineers, scientist, insurance professionals, and attorneys in more than 70 chapters worldwide.

    Interviewing and Photography Flier 4.19.2024.pdf

    This course is offered to prepare or reinforce good practices for conducting an informational interview with witnesses in fire investigation cases. This course does not cover interrogation techniques. The course covers how to prepare for an interview, how to identify interviewees factors that can affect a witness statement, and the use of visual aids in the interview.

    The course also covers a familiarization of photography skills, utilizing your digital camera. For beginners or intermediate level students who have established forensic skills in fire scene investigations.

    Vehicle Fire Investigation Course

    3-day course consists of 24 hours of tested instruction in determining origin and cause of motor vehicle fires and culminates in an investigation of a live burn vehicle fire scenario. Based on Chapter 26 of NFPA 921, topics will include vehicle investigation safety, fuel packages, ignition sources, and vehicle systems and identification. Included in the instruction is alive electrical demonstration showing how fuses, fusible links, and relays work, as well as real time failures such as overloads and shorts. Utilizing the team concept, students will have the opportunity to investigate a live burn, construct a report, and present their finding to the class.

    Track A - Basic Track (30 Tested Hours): Nov 5 12:00 P.M. - Nov 8, 2024.

    Suitable for fire service personnel pursuing fire investigation training and/or law enforcement personnel involved in investigation or evidence collection at fire scenes. The class will be based on the 2021 Edition of NFPA 921 and will provide the basis for professional qualifications as outlined in NFPA 1033.
